Former Tourism Minister Mausoom wins Travel Personality of the Year

Former Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has been named the Travel Personality of the Year at the World Travel Awards.

The "Travel Personality of the Year 2023" award was awarded to Mausoom at the grand finale of the World Travel Awards held at the Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

Special awards were presented to outstanding destinations, properties and private individuals.

Maldives won the World's Most Popular Destination Award for the fourth consecutive year and the newly launched Resilience Award. In addition, various resorts and hotels in Maldives won awards in different categories.

Mausoom received the award for his efforts as the minister of tourism to overcome the challenges faced by the Maldives tourism industry during the Covid pandemic.

The former minister dedicated his achievement to all those working in the tourism sector of Maldives and thanked them.

MSD launches online booking system to streamline services

The Maldives Securities Depository has launched an online booking system to streamline shareholder services and reduce wait times. The Maldives Economic Ministry has ordered foreign investors to exit restricted sectors, including retail and cargo services, by October 8. Authorities identified eight unreachable companies operating illegally and urged them to comply immediately. Businesses failing to meet the deadline must cease all prohibited operations.

MIB auctions Kudhimagooge with starting bid of MVR 9.6 million

Maldives Islamic Bank has opened a public auction for the 830-square-foot Kudhimagooge property in Malé with a starting bid of MVR 9.65 million. Interested parties must submit a bid security of MVR 100,000 by the September 28 deadline. Subsequent offers must increase by at least MVR 500,000 to be considered.

HDC grants promotions despite directive to cut costs

The Housing Development Corporation has granted high-salaried promotions to nine employees, including a political figure, despite a directive to cut costs. This move defies instructions from the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board to suspend promotions and reduce spending on salaries across state-owned enterprises.
