The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on Saturday night discussed not approving some of the ministers in President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's Cabinet.

The parliamentary group of the majority party, the MDP, discussed voting against five ministers from the cabinet at a meeting.

Adhadhu understands that the parliamentary group unanimously agreed to vote against two ministers.

There are 22 ministers in the government. The motion for their approval is currently at the Government Accountability Committee.

The MDP, during last night's meeting, also discussed changes to the budget proposed for next year.

Among the changes to be proposed to the Budget Review Committee is the allocation of MVR 400 million for the dredging of the Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu to other housing projects of the government.

Many MPs pointed out that it was not necessary to spend such a large amount on the project as Muizzu had promised to use a formula that would not require the state to spend a lot of money.

There are 55 MDP MPs in Parliament. As it holds the majority in parliament, the party has the power to disapprove a minister.
