Schools have been told to remove books with un-Islamic content.
Content contrary to Islam and Maldivian culture has been found in some books and other resources used in school libraries, stated a circular signed by Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu and sent to schools.
The ministry instructed schools to ensure that such material used in schools is not against religion and culture.
In addition, the ministry also advised ensuring that items donated by private parties are appropriate before approving their use.
If resources contrary to religion and culture were found, schools were instructed to dispose of them in collaboration with the ministry.
