President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has not made a decision on the advice by the Parliament's foreign relations committee to ban Israeli passports and Israeli tourists from entering the country, President's Office Under Secretary for Public Policy Mohamed Firzul said Sunday.
Speaking at the first press conference after the swearing-in of the new government, Firzul said the President would decide on the advice of the committee by referring to the Islamic identity of Maldivians and by prioritizing national interest.
"Our stand is very clear. What is happening against the Palestinian people is a genocide and it must stop immediately," he said.
Describing Israel's aggression as a genocide, Firzul said the government would always remain with the Palestinian Muslim brothers and sisters.
An amendment to the Immigration Act was submitted on Sunday to prevent Israeli tourists from entering the country. If the bill is passed, it will be a punishable offense to enter the country with an Israeli passport.
