Fenaka Corporation has been fined MVR 4 million for starting construction of powerhouses on 21 islands without conducting environment impact assessments (EIAs).
The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) said in an announcement made today that it has investigated the case and confirmed based on information gathered that Fenaka started construction on 21 islands without EIAs.
Fenaka was fined MVR 4,200,000 under the regulations on compiling environment impact assessment reports, the EPA announcement said.
The agency ordered Fenaka to pay the fine within 30 days.

Fenaka violated the regulations 21 times during the construction of powerhouses on some islands, the announcement stated.
The EPA previously took action against Fenaka for violating the environment impact assessment report regulations on six occasions in the past, the announcement noted.
The company was instructed by the EPA to comply with and follow procedures in the environment impact regulations in carrying out projects.
