Police raid RDC office with court order

Police officers have entered the main office of the Road Development Corporation (RDC).

The police raided RDC with a search order granted by the Criminal Court, Adhadhu has learned.

A team from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is also active inside RDC, Adhadhu has learned.

All staff have been taken out of the office apart from one employee per section.

The police and ACC are investigating the transfer of more than MVR 13 million from RDC's Bank of Maldives account to the personal accounts of employees, Adhadhu has learned.

The media previously reported that the money had been transferred to the bank accounts of RDC Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik 'Mookey' and Chief Financial Officer Yasir Hassan.

But RDC denied the allegations and sued some media outlets at the Civil Court for defamation.

RDC Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik 'Mookey' previously said that the money in question was petty cash sent to work sites.

Mookey told Adhadhu's 'Etherefuh' program that the company's employees were working on 30 sites and that MVR 10,000 was sent to each site every month.

The petty cash was deposited to the accounts of employees at the work site, he added. Large sums flagged recently were deposited over the past four years, he said.

"We have about 30 sites in the country now. There are seven departments in Male'. MVR10,000 is handed over as petty cash to the employee in charge of each site. That's not a large amount," Mookey said.
