Tourist arrivals are expected to reach 1.5 million by the end of October, the Tourism Ministry has said.
While 4,900 tourists visit the Maldives daily on average, a total of 1,464,340 tourist arrivals were recorded as of Saturday, which was 35,660 tourists short of reaching 1.5 million, according to the Tourism Ministry.
"We're hoping that it will increase to 1,515,000 by the end of this month," Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom said.
A total of 153,737 tourists visited the Maldives in October last year whilst 103,292 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this month. The Tourism Ministry estimates that annual tourist arrivals will reach 1.8 million in 2023.
Russia is the top source market for tourists to the Maldives, representing an 11.4 percent market share, followed by China and India each with 10.9 percent.
