Progressive Party of Maldives-People's National Congress (PPM-PNC) presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said on Monday night that he will establish a clean and transparent government with top officials accountable to the public.
Speaking at a rally in Laamu Gan last night during a campaign trip to the southern atolls, Muizzu said he would appoint hardworking and qualified individuals who are capable of working at the desired speed.
"God willing, the people I take for the cabinet will be people whom the public would be proud of. I will take hardworking and educated people for my team who would be able to serve and to work day and night at the speed that I want," he said.
Such individuals would also be appointed to government companies and other institutions, Muizzu said, promising a "clean" government.
"There won't be anything to hide in any government office. I won't let the public or journalists be unable to find out something. The nation will not have stability if we have to do something in hiding from the public," Muizzu said.
Muizzu said further that his administration will ensure accountability and that members of his team will answer to the public.
"There won't be anything to hide in the government that I will form. The public will see, it will be transparent. We won't do anything that we don't know how to answer for or can't be held accountable for. I won't do anything either that I can't be accountable for," he said.
"And no one in the team that I will form will be unable to answer for what they do. I will fully establish check and balance."
Muizzu is due to visit Huvadhu atoll, Fuvahmulah and Addu as part of his southern tour.
