The Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has started investigating the alleged locking of a child on a Hiya flat balcony.
A video showing a child locked alone in a balcony on the Hiya flat tower six is circulating on social media. The child can be heard crying and seen trying to get back inside the flat.
The HRCM said that the incident of a child locked alone on a Hiya flat balcony last night was placed under investigation after the video emerged on social media.
The commission urged the public not to share such videos of children on social media as it could indirectly affect the dignity of the child.
If such an incident is observed, members of the public should report it to the authorities, the HRCM said.
