Former Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer has praised the government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for the progress brought to the Maldives.
In a series of posts on X, Downer said that Solih's government has brought economic and social changes to the Maldives and stabilized the country.
"As a former Australian Foreign Minister, I admire what he has achieved," Downer wrote, adding that Solih has shown a commitment to democratic governance and international cooperation.
"When heading into their election, I hope the public will remember the progress made and consider the future with the right leadership."
Downer served as Australia's Foreign Minister from 1996 to 2007. Before that, he was the leader of the Liberal Party from 1994 to 1995.
After serving as the Foreign Minister, Downer was later appointed as Australia's High Commissioner to the UK. He held that position from 2014 to 2018.
