MFDA issues alert over contaminated cheese

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has banned the use and sale of a type of cheese imported from France that has been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

MFDA said in a press release Sunday that the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed had informed the authority that French camembert cheese was contaminated.

Efforts were ongoing to determine the risks to food safety following the alert, the press release noted.

The authority has ordered the contaminated batch of camembert brand cheese not to be sold or used. More information can be obtained by contacting MFDA at 7603204 or 3014361.
