State Minister for Housing Akram Kamaludeen has said that legally valid deeds will be handed over to the recipients of the Binveriyaa housing scheme after allotting the land plots.
The government began handing over land deeds at the Hulhumale' Synthetic Track on Sunday. Agreements will be signed and handed over along with allocated land plots.
Akram told reporters that deeds will be handed over after allotting the land plots. He guaranteed that there would be no legal issues with the deed provided by the housing ministry.
The land registration will be done by lawyers and the land will be handed over after completing all the legal requirements, he added.
"We are registering the agreement, which is notarized by lawyers. So there is no confusion. In the past, land has been released from the sea and lagoons. We have been getting documents," Akram said.
If a person who received land under the Binveriyaa scheme already has a land plot that is less than 600 square feet, they will be required to give up the old plot to confirm the new one.
But Akram said they will have three months to submit the issue to court and two years to vacate the old land.
The government has decided to give land to 97 percent of the applicants under the Binveriyaa scheme. That is 9003 plots for 18,955 people in Hulhumale', Gulhifalhi and Giraavaru lagoon
