Four employees of the Gaaf Dhaal Gadhdhoo health center have been suspended over an alleged attempt to administer expired IV drips to children.
Health Ministry media official Aminath Shathfa told Adhadhu on Tuesday night that an inquiry was launched after the matter was brought to the ministry's attention.
Four staff involved in the incident have been told to stay home, she said.
A source from Gadhdhoo told Adhadhu that the IVs in question expired in July.
A group of islanders protested outside the health center last night.
A second source from the island told Adhadhu that the IVs were found to have expired during an attempt to administer one to a child who was admitted with a fever and cold. An expired IV had been administered to another hospitalized child by then, according to the source.
But it was removed before members of the public arrived to check and the health center hid the expired IVs, the source said, citing protesters.
