The Education Ministry has changed the rules which banned face veil or niqab while teaching in schools.
According to the amended rules, teachers with niqab must wear a staff card to identify themselves. The veil must be removed only when teaching students under the age of 10 in an environment appropriate for exposure.
The ruling coalition's Adhaalath Party (AP) said the government had brought the change at its request.
Home Minister Imran Abdulla, who is also the President of AP, tweeted that he was "grateful for amending the rules to clear the confusion over wearing the Islamic dress while working."
Many people expressed concern and protested over the rule which banned teachers from wearing niqab in schools.
