The deeper marine piling work between Malé and Vilingili for the Thilamale' bridge has begun.
The Indian High Commission said work on the structure is underway along with the piling work.
The government believes that the Thilamale' bridge will be connected between Male' and Vilingili before the end of this year.
The bridge will be extended from Vilingili to Thilafushi next year with plans to extend the bridge to Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu.
The bridge costs USD 500 million of which USD 400 million is a loan from Indian Exim Bank while the remaining USD 100 million is free aid from India.
