The oncology ward at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) was officially opened on Wednesday.
Vice President Faisal Naseem inaugurated the new oncology ward during a ceremony at the main government hospital.
The ward was built with MVR 3.5 million assistance from the Bank of Maldives (BML) and MVR 5.4 million from the IGMH budget.
At the inaugural ceremony, Vice President Naseem emphasized the significant progress achieved by the administration in enhancing healthcare services in the country.
He highlighted the importance of establishing an oncology ward at IGMH and recalled the administration's numerous efforts to introduce new healthcare services and improve service delivery at the hospital.
The newly inaugurated ward features eight beds and is equipped with two lavatories for patients, a nursing station, a waiting area, a staff area, a medical storage room, and an administrative office.
IGMH CEO Ibrahim Saleem told Adhadhu that many cancer treatment services will be available in one place with the inauguration of the new ward.
"Earlier, we used to treat cancer patients in different places. Now we can get all the services like chemotherapy under one roof," he said.
IGMH said the official opening of the ward was delayed due to difficulties in bringing the necessary equipment and machines. The ward will start serving patients in a week.
