Addu City Mayor Mohamed Nizar on Wednesday announced that land for housing purposes will be allocated to all eligible applicants.
Earlier this year, the city council announced the allocation of 1,000 plots of land in four districts of the southern city.
- 500 plots of 1500 square feet in Hithadhoo
- 300 plots of 1500 square feet in Feydhoo
- 100 plots of 2000 square feet in Hulhudhoo
- 100 plots of 2000 square feet in Meedhoo
Nizar said the list of recipients would be announced on Thursday. He also noted that the list includes unmarried youth.
A total of 4,160 people applied for land, out of which 3,972 were deemed eligible. That is about 95 percent of the applicants.
Land plots have not been allocated for housing purposes in Addu since 2002. Nizar earlier said the allocation of land this year will bring some relief to the housing problem.
