More than 15,000 people are eligible for flats under the 'Gedhoruveriyaa' housing scheme, according to the provisional list released by the Housing Ministry on Tuesday.
The list was published in the government gazette after deciding to allocate flats to all eligible applicants under the scheme. Some 15,046 out of 20,697 applicants are eligible.
These include 4,319 people who are eligible for two-bedroom apartments and 10,727 who are eligible for three-bedroom flats.
The government is building 32 towers in the second phase of Hulhumale' under the scheme. Each tower is 18-storeys.
The towers will have 1,200 two-bedroom apartments and 2,800 three-bedroom apartments making a total of 4000 apartments.
An agreement was signed with an Indian company on August 2 build an additional 4000 flats under the scheme.
State minister Akram Kamaluddin told Adhadhu that negotiations were ongoing for a project to build 3000 additional flats in Hulhumale'.
He added that the government also has plans to build 3500 more flats in order to guarantee housing for all eligible applicants.
The deadline for submitting complaints to the provisional list of flat winners is August 22.
