Schools reopen after annual holidays

The new academic year began on Sunday with schools across the country reopening after the annual holidays.

Schools closed on June 22 and the new academic year started today with a total of 84,200 students in 216 schools. The Education Ministry said 156 schools are single-session.

Three new schools have been opened in the Male' region. They are the newly built Salahuddin School in Hulhumale' Phase 2, the CHSE building in Hulhumale' and the new Dharumavantha School building in Male'.

Students of Arabiyya School, without a designated school building, will start the new academic year in the former Dharumavantha School building.

Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali, in her address for the new academic year, said "today is a happy, joyful day."

The first term break of the new academic year is from December 22 to January 6, 2024. The annual holiday in 2024 will be from June 13 to July 30.
