Hithadhoo Uthuru MP Mohamed Aslam has been appointed as the running mate for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Adhadhu understands that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has informed the MP of Solih's decision. But an official announcement is yet to be made.
Solih is campaigning for re-election with the backing of the Adhaalath Party (AP) and the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
As the deadline for submitting candidacy papers ends at 2 pm Monday, candidates are now finalizing running mates and paperwork.
Aslam is the leader of the MDP parliamentary group and the majority leader in the People's Majlis. He is currently serving his fourth term in the parliament.
While Aslam has been appointed as the running mate, current Vice President Faisal Naseem had also expressed in the position.
