Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali met with the Palestinian Ambassador to Maldives Walid Abu Ali on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Zahir said the Maldives has always regarded Palestine as a close partner and assured that the relationship would continue.
Maldives will always support Palestine in its journey to independence, he said.
Ambassador Ali noted that the two countries continue to have strong relations and thanked the Maldives for supporting the Palestinian cause.
Noting that the Maldivian people had always cherished the bond with Palestine, Ali commended the support from the Maldivian youth.
Minister Zahir highlighted the need for the assistance of religious scholars and discussed ways to collaborate.
Maldives and Palestine established diplomatic relations on April 4, 1982. Maldives has appointed a non-resident ambassador to Palestine to strengthen relations between the two countries.
