Japanese foreign minister to visit Maldives

The foreign ministry has announced that Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa is scheduled to pay an official visit to the Maldives.

He will visit the Maldives from 29-30 July 2023 on an invitation from Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.

Hayashi is expected to meet Shahid and Defence Minister Mariya Didi. He will also witness the Exchange of Notes under the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) between Maldives and Japan.

This is the highest-level visit by a Japanese government official to the Maldives, since the visit of former Foreign Minister, Taro Kono in January 2018.
