The criminal court has sentenced a man to 28 years in prison for child sexual abuse.

Nishan Ibrahim, from Baa Thulhaadhoo, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor. He was charged over two cases of touching a child's body with sexual intent.

Nishan Ibrahim went to the victim's home and sexually abused the child on several occasions in 2019. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

However, the criminal court judge decided that the prosecution's evidence was sufficient to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Nishan was handed two jail sentences of 14 years each for the two charges.
