Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that the projects to build a hospital in Gaafu Dhaalu Gahdhoo and develop Laamu Gan regional hospital to tertiary level will begin next month.

The Ministry of Health said in September last year that an agreement had been reached with Spain's HOMT Espana to develop the Gan Regional Hospital to tertiary level and build a new hospital in Gahdhoo.

MTCC, which has been awarded the design and build contract for the construction of the two hospitals, said in a tweet today that the company is preparing to start the construction of the project.

The equipment will be delivered to the sites and construction will begin before the second week of August, MTCC announced.

The Gan tertiary hospital with 130-beds is a project worth 28.41 million Euros (MVR 492.35 million) while the new 30-bed hospital in Gahdhoo is worth 13.07 million Euros (MVR 226.50 million).

Gan tertiary hospital project has been given a three-year deadline while the Gahdhoo hospital has been given a two-year and six-month deadline.
