The civil court ordered a person who failed to return an ice box rented from Pink Rentals for one day to pay about MVR 64,000 as compensation to the rental company.
According to the judgment delivered on June 25, the defendant rented a 40 liter ice box from Pink Rentals and paid for one day. A lawsuit was filed at the civil court in October last year.
Pink Rentals sued to recover the ice box along with outstanding rental payments as well as MVR 29 spent on GST and documentation.
Judge Farhad Rasheed ordered the payment of MVR 63,990 for the 395 days that elapsed without returning the ice box. That is MVR 162 per day. A total payment of MVR 64,019 was ordered together with the MVR 29 spent on GST and documentation.
The defendant was ordered to settle the payment within 30 days and to return the ice box before July 10.
Despite signing to acknowledge receipt of the lawsuit, the defendant did not submit any response or request an extension. The civil court concluded the case in absentia.
