Former Home Minister Mohamed Shihab has resigned from the post of Presidential Advisor.
The President's Office confirmed Shihab's resignation but gave no further details. He could not be reached for comment as he did not answer the phone.
Shihab served as an MP for a long time and held several senior positions in the government. He had been the parliament Speaker, oversaw two different ministries and served as the Mayor of Male' city.
He is a graduate of James Cook University in Australia. He also played a leading role in the ruling coalition's main party, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
