The land reclamation in the second phase of Gulhi Falhu commenced on Sunday.
The project was inaugurated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at a ceremony held at Gulhi Falhu.
The second phase of the project was awarded to Boskalis, which also completed the first phase of the project.
The government took a loan of MVR 1.6 billion and awarded the second phase of the dredging to Boskalis for MVR 2 billion.
President Solih said a total of 68 hectares of land has already been dredged and another 150 hectares of land will be added.
The land will be used to allocate plots for recipients of the 'Binveriyaa' scheme targeting the people of Male' city.
The government also plans to transfer the Male' commercial port to Gulhi Falhu. Male', Villimale', Thilafushi and Gulhi Falhu will be connected under the Greater Male' Connectivity Project.
