The Maldives Reform Maldives (MRM) has petitioned the civil court to overrule the Elections Commission's (EC) decision to dissolve the party for failing to meet the legal requirement to have a minimum of 3000 members.
MRM secretary general Abdul Aleem told Adhadhu that a case was filed at the civil court on June 22.
The court has not yet made a decision on accepting the lawsuit, Aleem said.
The civil court issued an order on May 28 instructing MRM to file a case to overturn the EC's decision within 30 days.
Former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and his son Faris Maumoon, the MRM's president, at the time, criticized the EC over the dissolution of the party, contending that the decision was illegal.
MRM said the party submitted enough membership forms during the period provided by the EC to reach 3000 members.
MRM is part of the governing coalition. While the party has yet to make a decision on this year's presidential election, rumors have been spreading about Faris Maumoon contesting in the election.
