Bengaluru (25th June) – Lebanon demolished Bhutan by 4-1 in tonight’s game of the SAFF Championship to move one step closer to the semifinals.
Lebanon are almost guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals with a point in their last group game against Maldives enough to take them through.
Bhutan is eliminated with their second consecutive defeat in this year’s competition.
Lebanon scored all of their four goals of the night in the first half. Mohamed Sadek gave Lebanon the lead in the 11th minute. Ali Al Haj’s shot was saved by the Bhutan goalkeeper but Sadek was sharp to slot the rebound in to the back of the net.
Al Haj’s individual brilliance doubled Nepal’s lead in the 24th minute. Bhutan defenders were helpless as Al Haj went past three defenders to score.
Lebanon’s third goal came in the 35th minute via a corner kick as Khalil Bader was on hand to slot in a rebound that came off a Bhutan defender.
Mahdi Zein grabbed a fourth for Lebanon just before the break.
Bhutan pulled one back in the 79th minute when their star man Chencho Gyeltshen’s powerful shot found the back of the net.
