A speedboat that was travelling from the capital Male' to Noonu Velidhoo island capsized on Sunday after being slammed by a huge wave during stormy weather.
More than 30 people were on the speedboat at the time of the incident, but no one was injured. The vessel sank near the jetty of Randheli resort.
In a message posted on social media, Coast Guard said they were providing assistance following the sinking of "Legion 7".
The Met Office has issued a white alert for the entire country. A white alert means thunderstorms with heavy rain and rough seas.
