Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) has launched the first online account opening service in the Maldives.

The bank launched the service during a press briefing Friday night. The service will be available through the government's eFaas portal. The request to open an account can be placed through the MIB Apply Now portal on eFaas.

Whilst this is a new service in the Maldives, people from the islands have long complained about having to travel to the capital Male' for bank account opening. MIB hopes that this revolutionary service will bring convenience to the people.

Additionally, applications for MIB's Everyday Visa card and Visa Platinum card can also be submitted online.

MIB stated that the bank received assistance from the Ministry of Communications and Technology to launch this service. Deputy Minister Mohamed Shareef attended the briefing.

Shareef said the main objective of working with MIB is to provide services to people across the country without discrimination.
