The Male' city council has imposed a park entrance fee on tourists and work permit holders.
The fees were approved during a city council meeting with the votes of 11 members. Four members abstained.
Fee rates
- Work permit holders - MVR 15 (USD 0.98)
- Expats without a document - MVR 50 (USD 3.26)
- Tourists - MVR 75 (USD 4.89)
- Tourists with cameras - MVR 500 (USD 32.57)
But no fees will be imposed on foreign maids accompanying children and foreigners assisting elderly people and people with disabilities.
All children below 18 years of age, regardless of nationality, will be allowed to enter parks in Male' free of charge.
Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzi proposed to exempt diplomatic mission card holders and the proposal was approved.
Earlier a fee was imposed on foreigners to enter the Sultan Park during the government of former President Abdulla Yameen.
But the fee was later scrapped. Lonuziyaaraiy Park has been free of charge for everyone since its opening in 2020.
