Ten civil society groups won the Maldives’ first Civil Society Awards on Thursday night.

The award-winning groups have made contributions in the areas of education, environment, island development and women empowerment.

Six groups applied for the award and four won in the special recognition category.

The award-winning groups are:

  1. Women empowerment - Southern Community Empowerment of Maldives
  2. Health - Aged CareMaldivess
  3. Special needs - Care Society
  4. Education - Imagu
  5. Culture - Maldives Poets’ Association
  6. Environment - Naifaru Juvenile

Special recognition awards:

  1. Jamiyyathul Thaawoon
  2. Daylight Club
  3. Scout
  4. Maldives Girl Guides Association

President Ibrahim Mohmed Solih presented awards to the 10 recipients of the first Civil Society Awards at the ceremony on Thursday night.
