The government is reviewing the MVR 5000 allowance for elderly people, president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said on Sunday, promising a good change to the allowance.
Solih is currently on a three-day visit to Addu city for the inauguration of development projects. On Sunday night, he met with the people of the southern city.
“We are reviewing the allowance. In the future, reforms will be brought to the allowance,” he said about the allowance for Maldivians over the age of 65.
He also claimed the government got about three years to carry out development projects because of the covid-19 pandemic.
Only the most essential projects were carried out during those three years, he added.
“A lot of investments have been made on education. Free degree is available. Tertiary hospitals are being built across the country. Skilled people are joining the workforce. But to find stability we must address social issues,” Solih said.
