The government is seeking public opinion on installing water drainage systems in six areas of Male’ to tackle the issue of frequent flooding after heavy rainfall.
The survey is part of research being done by the Land and Marine Environmental Resource (LaMER) Group to assess the environmental and societal impacts due to drainage system projects.
Although details have not been provided, the survey document states that drainage pipes will be laid in four areas of Henveiru and two areas of Maafannu.
The questionnaire publicized by the planning ministry says that the floods in the streets of Male’ will be drained out to the sea with the help of pipes.
“The pipes to be installed under this project will be wider compared to the pipes being used in the ongoing road development project,” the document read.
Planning ministry said work will be carried out in the chosen areas for about three to four months under this project.
Some of the questions raised in the survey include difficulties caused by heavy rain, damages caused by heavy rain and difficulties that might be faced due to road closure for the project.
