Treetop Hospital’s managing director Ahmed Nazeer has expressed concern over the unavailability of medicine produced in developed countries.
Speaking at a ceremony on Monday to inaugurate the hospital’s fertility center, Nazeer said there are challenges in providing health services because of burdensome regulations.
“While we operate a high-end hospital here, we have to prescribe medicine brought from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan,” he said.
Nazeer expressed hope that the health ministry and relevant authorities would work towards setting up mechanisms to allow procurement of medicine from developed countries.
“Their discussions [health ministry and relevant authorities] also indicate that this is something that must be done.”
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration of the fertility center, president Ibrahim Mohmed Solih highlighted age-long issues in importing consumables for the health sector.
“I will describe it as a network. At different levels of that network, I will not say that they don’t have some kind of connection to decision makers in the government,” Solih said, noting the difficulties in investigating and taking action.
Referring to Nazeer’s remarks about difficulties in operating the hospital because of regulations, Solih assured to attend to those issues soon and find solutions.
