Solih expresses vision to turn IUM into regional Islamic hub

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said his government wants to establish the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) as a distinguished regional institution for Islamic education.

Speaking at the IUM Convocation 2023, Solih expressed his vision to transform IUM into a center dedicated to promoting the noble values of Islam.

“He underscored the significance of IUM in cultivating virtuous Islamic values among its students,” read a news release on the President’s Office website.

Over 700 students graduated from IUM.

Solih highlighted the collaborative efforts between IUM and the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in safeguarding the Maldives against the spread of religious extremism.

He also announced that the pay commission and the finance ministry had recently finalized the salary revision for lecturers at IUM, signifying an imminent improvement in their remuneration.

The government will soon implement an enhanced salary and vacation policy framework for Imams, he added.

Over 700 students successfully graduated from diverse academic programs at IUM. Nine students were honored with the best student awards.
