A doctor from Egypt who was working at the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital in Naifaru island has been suspended following allegations of bullying and disruption.
Hospital manager Jaufar Abdulla said patients, staff and islanders have filed complaints regarding the conduct of Dr. Mohamed Yahya.
“Before this suspension, he was asked to take time off from work because of disciplinary and ethical issues. But we continued to get complaints from the public and decided to suspend him,” Jaufar stated.
The gynecologist is accused of saying upsetting things to patients and yelling at nurses and other staff in front of patients. He is also accused of misconduct in the operation theater.
“We had two gynecologists. One went on leave so he was the only gynecologist left and we started getting complaints from nurses,” Jaufar said.
Videos circulating on social media show the doctor forcefully taking a ball away from children on a futsal ground and trying to assault them.
Another video shows him taking a water pipe from the road and trying to spray inside a shop. Jaufar said the shop owner had reported the matter to the police.
