Four more embassies to open despite rising costs
The Maldives government will open four new embassies in Egypt, South Africa, Australia, and Italy, bringing the total number of missions to 25. This expansion comes despite public concern over rising costs, with annual spending already at MVR 648 million. Currently, 82 political appointees are stationed abroad at a high monthly expense.
