New regulation on reducing single-use plastics
The Maldives has introduced a new regulation to phase out single-use plastics by 2030, banning their production and import. Effective in three months, the policy includes a phase-out plan and enforcement by the Ministry of Environment. Violators face warnings or fines up to MVR 100,000, though some aviation and duty-free items are exempt.
