Customs seizes 2.3 million smuggled cigarettes
Maldives Customs seized 2.3 million smuggled cigarettes and fined the importer MVR 2.05 million following a tip-off. The operation targeted a sea freight shipment with an estimated duty value of MVR 18.7 million. Smuggling incidents have risen recently due to increased tobacco import duties.
