Cancer remains the top reason for overseas medical referrals under the Maldives' Aasandha scheme, primarily for complex diagnostics and follow-up care. While chemotherapy is increasingly available locally, cancer mortality is rising. Over 1,900 people are registered in the national cancer registry, with breast cancer being the most common.
