The Maldives has condemned Iran's retaliatory strikes against the US-Israeli attacks during a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council.

At the 44th meeting of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council, a debate was held on a resolution on Iran's attacks on Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The resolution was cosponsored by the Maldives.

The Maldives was represented by the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva Salma Rasheed.

She said the Maldives government "strongly condemns" the attacks on civilians and public places. She noted that the international maritime traffic was affected by the attacks.

The brief statement did not name Israel or the United States. Israel is still attacking Palestine, Lebanon and Syria. The Maldives did not mention these attacks.

However, a statement posted on the Foreign Ministry website condemned the US and Israeli attacks, after first condemning Iran's retaliatory strikes.
