The Maldives Customs Service seized more than 11 kilograms of drugs smuggled into the Maldives by air at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Friday.

Customs said the drugs seized included more than five kilograms of cannabis leaves and more than six kilograms of hashish oil.

The street value of the seized cannabis leaves and hashish oil is estimated at more than MVR 9.6 million, customs said.

Customs have not released any further details and the police have not yet commented on the matter.

It is unclear whether any suspects were arrested.
