Three men were arrested at the Velana International Airport (VIA) on Tuesday (March 3) for trying to smuggle more than six kilograms of drugs into the Maldives.

Police said the suspects were 28-year-old Ali Irufan and two Indian nationals - 19-year-old Danushkadhan Gopal and 21-year-old Kathirivil Manimaran.

Irufan was remanded in custody till the end of the trial and the two Indians were remanded in custody for five days.

They were stopped at the airport by the Maldives Customs Service and handed over to the Maldives Police Service.
