Judge Hassan Shafeeu, elected as the High Court representative, has been appointed to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Shafeeu was elected on January 8. It took President Mohamed Muizzu 45 days to appoint him to the position.
The JSC consists of the Speaker of Parliament, a Member of Parliament appointed by Parliament, a citizen appointed by Parliament, a Supreme Court judge, a High Court judge, a lower court judge, the President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and a member to represent lawyers. There is also a member appointed by the President and the Attorney General (AG).
According to the composition, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, MP Husni Mubarak, President's representative Yazmeed Mohamed and AG Ahmed Usham are loyal to Muizzu.
The Justice who represents the Supreme Court on the JSC was also appointed to the top court bench by Muizzu. He also took over the power to appoint the President of the CSC.
There is dissatisfaction among the lawyers about their representative Ali Abdul Latheef. Idris Fauzee, who sits on the JSC as a citizen appointed by the Parliament, is the ex-husband of Muizzu's sibling MP Fathimath Saudha.
