The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate for Hulhumale' North, Fathimath Zahiyya (Zaya), has accused the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) of delaying permits to put up her local council campaign posters.

Zaya said she had mailed the HDC on February 14 for permission to display the posters. The HDC did not respond to the email and confirmed receiving her request only after she complained about it on social media.

Although HDC was delaying permission for MDP posters, Zaya said the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) was working to put up posters in Hulhumale' for its candidates.

"This is unacceptable. All candidates should be given equal opportunities," she said.

Zaya said she would take the matter to court if the government continues to violate her electoral rights and obstruct her campaign.
