The Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) has announced the main requirements for applying for the Guesthouse Awards 2026.

The award is given to guesthouses, individuals working in the sector and islands that promote local tourism.

MIB said the requirements for the award are divided into three categories.

1. Guesthouse category requirements

• Be registered under the Companies Act and have valid documents
• Valid guesthouse operating license issued by the Tourism Ministry
• Documentation of compliance with health, safety and environmental standards of the tourism industry
• Submission of tax clearance report and documentation of compliance with Pension Act and Employment Act
• Must have been in operation for at least 12 months up to the date of application
• Stay active in online travel agencies.

2. Individual category requirements (sector employees)

• Being a Maldivian citizen
• Submit a declaration of no conflict of interest with MIB or Crowe Maldives, the organizer of the award

3. Island level category requirements

• Provide evidence of continuous tourism promotion activities
• The total number of guesthouse rooms operated in the island shall not be less than 50

The deadline for applications is July 15. The awards will be presented at the MIB Guesthouse Symposium in October.
