Police decide to conduct autopsies of two prisoners

Police have decided to conduct autopsies of the two men who died last Monday (February 2) while serving their sentences in the custody of the Maldives Correctional Service.

The autopsies will be done on 45-year-old Hassan Niyaz, who died in Hulhumale' Prison, and 53-year-old Ibrahim Suheil, who died while undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

"Following investigation into the two cases, we have decided to conduct an autopsy on the bodies. Necessary efforts are being made to send the bodies abroad for autopsy," police said.

Adhadhu understands that their families are against the autopsies.

The government has made it compulsory to conduct an autopsy on those who die in prison.
