A social media activist of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), Mariyam Shiuna, has sued former Vice President Mohamed Jameel Ahmed for posting a picture of her without the hijab.

In a post on social media X, Shiuna said she has filed with the relevant authorities to protect her rights and remedy the situation caused by Jameel's act of posting her photos without the hijab.

She described it as "harassment for political purposes."

On Saturday (January 17), Jameel posted a picture of Shiuna with and without hijab, along with the meaning of a verse in Surah Al-Hujurat about those who spread false news.

He made the post after a website allegedly run by PNC activists spread false news about Ismail Zariyand, who is running as an independent candidate for Male' city mayor with the support of former President Abdulla Yameen.
